The Story Of Jamaican Music

DISC CONDITION: Near Mint (NM or M-)

SLEEVE CONDITION: Very Good Plus (VG+)

The history of Jamaican music, that is to say the succession of ska, rock steady, reggae and dance hall styles, could almost be confused with that of the Trojan and Island labels, so decisive was the influence of Chris Blackwell's label on the island's music. This sumptuous 4-CD box set summarises, with remarkable acuity, nearly thirty-five years of Jamaican music through its main currents, from ska to ragga.

We discover an immeasurable musical wealth (Africa/Jamaica relations, influences of jazz and soul, arrival of electronics...) and of course essential groups and artists, from the Skatalites to Chaka Demus & Pliers, via the "pillars" Marley, Burning Spear, Culture or Jimmy Cliff. A magnificent work, coupled with a superlative presentation.
