The cover of Joy Division's first album, "Unknow Pleasures", released in 1979, is what we call a cult cover. At least as cult, if not more, than the album it illustrates. Created by Peter Saville , the regular graphic designer of Factory Records on which the cold wave group was signed. It is inspired by the graph of the signals recorded from the first pulsar (neutron star) discovered. In the video below, Peter Saville tells the "making off" of this cover. He offers a delightful panorama of the dozens of unusual tributes it has inspired.
