Description

Forbidden Fruit is an album by jazz singer/pianist/songwriter Nina Simone . Originally released in 1961, it was her second studio album for the Colpix label. She is accompanied by a trio consisting of guitarist Al Schackman , bassist Chris White and drummer Bobby Hamilton, a trio also featured on the live albums Nina Simone at Newport (1960) and Nina at the Village Gate (1962). 180 gr vinyl with gatefold sleeve.

In Forbidden Fruit, Nina Simone sings about love. While some of the songs are conventional—in the sense that their melodies are haunting and in the tradition of love songs—others are more concerned with the realities of troubled love. In the latter category, for example, are "Rags and Old Iron," "Gin House Blues," "Work Song," and "Forbidden Fruit." This album, more than ever, proves Nina's astonishing versatility, and affirms her as one of the great talents of the era.
