In 1954, the young American singer Elvis Presley released his first 45, one of the 100 essential vinyls. With That's All Right Mama on the A side and Blue Moon of Kentucky on the B side. Thus the original version, a fast blues, recorded by Big Boy Crudup on September 6, 1946 in Chicago. Elvis Presley's cover was recorded on July 5, 1954 in Memphis. The singer had gone to Sam Philips' studio with the intention of singing the country ballad I Love You Because. At the end of the session, he improvised That's All Right and Blue Moon of Kentucky with the two studio musicians who accompanied him: guitarist Scotty Moore and double bassist Bill Black. Sam Philips was then convinced of Elvis Presley's promising talent .
