Jean-Daniel BEAUVALLET
JD Beauvallet was, since 1986, one of the founding members of the magazine Les Inrockuptibles, where he directed the musical section until 2019. For more than thirty years, he has been interviewing musicians in length, but also the behind-the-scenes characters who also make the history of rock. Thanks to his professionalism and his intact passion, he has forged special ties with rock players. As a teenager, he was one of the pioneers of the free radio adventure and began organizing concerts at the age of 16. At 18, he left his studies and France to settle as close as possible to the music that he was passionate about at the time: he moved to Manchester and then Liverpool.
After studying journalism, he abandoned a short television career to join the Inrockuptibles team, where he immediately became correspondent in England. He also co-directs the programming of the Inrocks festival. He was also artistic director of two international compilations: I'm Your Fan (tribute to Leonard Cohen, 1991) and Monsieur Gainsbourg Revisited (tribute to Serge Gainsbourg, 2006). He has contributed to numerous documentaries, including films on Portishead, Jeff Buckley, Scott Walker, Daft Punk, David Bowie, the Liverpool and Manchester scene, Brexit and the Queen of England.
He has lived in England (Brighton then London) for over twenty years, from where he frequently takes part in radio broadcasts for French or English stations, as an observer of the cultures of the two countries.
